Description
6x10 (about?) copper plate etching
Final project for printmaking class used a really cool new technique for this one called aquatint. It is the process by which you create those nice areas of even tones (involves tree sap and a huge 12 ft tall wooden box)
The figure is from a painting of Minerva by Hendrick Goltzius. I did a gesture drawing of the painting and then based the image on the plate off of the gesture. originally, I was going to appropriate the figure to make an image of Inana for the place project a few weeks ago but that never happened (but that is why I had a gesture of it in the first place, yay sketchbook farming!)
more pictures on blog: [link] but theres not a whole lot of extra information that I havn't already mentioned here (there's just a picture of the Minerva painting Goltzius) under the "printmaking" label I do believe.

Very nicely done, Aquatint is difficult to manage I've found my own love for it over the years. I wish you had brought more variation in the tone the lines on the figure almost beckon for company, pushing the limit brings some very intriguing results. Good work
