Prickly Pear Cactus

prickly pear cactus etchings made as a part of my South Florida Pine Rocklands Ecosystem project! This plant is a vital part of the ecosystem, providing an important food source for insects and animals, including the keystone species the gopher tortoise. Recent short sighed construction projects have threatened the last remaining acres of this rare habitat. This habitat very rarely finds it's way into art and not very well understood.
